What is the Metropolis...

What is Marlin Metropolis?

Marlin Metropolis is a community of teachers and staff working together to engage, educate, and empower all second and third grade students.

Why a Metropolis?

Marlin Metropolis provides:

A cooperative approach to teaching all students.

Whole group learning experiences

Grade level learning opportunities

Increased opportunity for teachers to work one-on-one with students

Effective enrichment and remediation

How Does it Work?

On a typical day students check into their homeroom, wake themselves up with Minds in Motion, and gather for whole group fluency instruction through song.  After a language based mini lesson students break out into smaller Daily 5 rotations. The culminating Daily 5 activity is a whole group poem lesson based on the research of Tim Raskinski.

For math, students meet in grade level groups for instruction followed by independent practice in their homerooms.

Social studies, science, and writing lessons are taught in a whole group setting with additional independent practice in homeroom classrooms.

RTI groups are based on academic level. Core instruction is provided during class and supported during RTI by the Metropolis teachers and some support staff.
