Invention Convention

Most invention ideas have been approved and should be underway at home. We will celebrate with an Invention Convention on Tuesday, February 11th (National Invention Day).  The celebration will be from 3:00-3:45. We would love for all you families to come celebrate with us! If you are able to attend, feel free to browse inventions in all three classrooms. We will be working on paragraphs describing the inventions here at school.  Inventions can be brought to school on the 10th if you like and need to be here by the 11th. Thank you so much for helping your child take on this project at home! We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day approaching we thought we would send out this list of student names. We will be having parties and exchanging valentines in our homeroom classes.  If your child would like to bring in valentines for friends please hold on to them until V-day!

Hello Marlin Families,

After all those crazy snow days and two hour delays we are happy to be back in the swing of things this week. There is a lot of hard work happening in the Metropolis already and we are pleased to introduce two new student teachers to our team.

This is Miss Jessica Engelbrecht. She is originally from St. Louis and enjoys

traveling with her family. Miss Engelbrecht is Mrs. Harding's student teacher and

has already dug right in with students from all three classes. We are so thrilled to

                                    have her!

This is Miss Lauren Piattoni. She comes to us from Crown Point, IN and enjoys

running. Miss Piattoni is Mrs. Melwid's student teacher and we are so

excited to have her working with all of our Metropolis students.

Other news...

We have been finishing up some non-fiction writing in our writers' workshops and really focusing on what makes strong paragraphs (topic sentence with supporting facts and a conclusion). We have also been learning about authors' purpose and are excited to tune in to a "Story Smash-Up Webcase Event" this afternoon. During this webcast the authors of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants will come together to talk about how they create great writing. They will be sharing a story that they co-wrote, combining their two main characters. They are also running a contest for students to write the ending to their story. We will be working on this in class as well.

Has your child been telling you about an invention project? Information on this project is coming home tonight. Please check your child's folder for details! If you have questions about this project please let us know.

Happy New Year eveyone!!!
